House Nymeros Martell, known as House Martell, is one of the Great Houses of the Seven Kingdoms and rules over Dorne. The term “Nymeros” signifies their lineage from Nymeria, a Rhoynish warrior queen who united with the Martells around 700 BC. The ruling seat of the Prince of Dorne is in Sunspear, located in southeastern Dorne.
Historically, the Martells’ emblem featured a spear, while Nymeria and her Rhoynar used a sun. Upon Nymeria’s marriage to Lord Mors Martell, these symbols merged into a gold spear piercing a red sun on an orange field. Their motto is “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken.” Physically, they are described as having dark eyes, dark ringlet hair, and olive skin, fitting the appearance of salty Dornishmen as noted by Daeron I Targaryen.
