Fire and Blood!
Lore
House Targaryen of King’s Landing is a noble family of Valyrian descent that once ruled the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. Their sigil is a red three-headed dragon, breathing red flames on a black field, and their house words are “Fire and Blood.”
As the only family of dragonlords who survived the Doom of Valyria, the Targaryens left the Valyrian Freehold twelve years before the cataclysm. They settled at Dragonstone castle on Dragonstone island for over a century until Aegon the Conqueror and his sister-wives, Visenya and Rhaenys, initiated the Wars of Conquest in 2 BC.
During Aegon’s Conquest, the family constructed the Aegonfort in the new capital city of King’s Landing. The Aegonfort was later demolished and replaced by the Red Keep, which became their main seat throughout their dynasty and housed the Iron Throne. The title of Prince of Dragonstone was typically given to the heir to the throne, along with their original castle. The Targaryens also established Summerhall as a summer residence, which was allocated to several younger sons of the family over time.
For nearly three hundred years, House Targaryen reigned as the Kings of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, as well as the Lords of the Seven Kingdoms, and the Great House of the Crownlands. Seventeen male Targaryens sat on the Iron Throne. The dynasty concluded with the death of Aerys II, known as the Mad King, during Robert’s Rebellion, after which the Targaryens were overthrown and replaced by House Baratheon. The surviving children of Aerys II, Viserys and Daenerys Targaryen, fled into exile and have lived in the Free Cities of Essos ever since.

Faction Identity
The last surviving Targaryen, Daenerys Stormborn, along with her diverse companions, gathers an
army across the Narrow Sea. Planning to take back what is rightfully hers as the sole heir to the
Targaryen throne, she plans to take the fight to the usurpers in Westeros, bringing them Fire and Blood. Her forces consist of highly mobile cavalry units like Khal Drogo’s Dothraki, elite Unsullied warriors, hordes of freed slaves, and her iconic trio of young but deadly dragons. Together, they form a varied and formidable army with which Daenerys seeks to reclaim the Iron Throne. House Targaryen is the most exotic and eccentric faction in A Song of Ice and Fire: The Miniatures Game.
Play Style
A Targaryen army is a dynamic mix of specialized units:
- Dothraki cavalry are swift but lightly armored, excelling in flanking maneuvers.
- Unsullied warriors are elite fighters, capable of devastating attacks but limited in number.
- Dragons are highly mobile and ignore terrain, delivering devastating direct damage that melts enemy armor. However, they are vulnerable to sustained enemy attacks.
These units are complemented by a colorful assortment of infantry from Essos, which serve in support roles. As a Targaryen commander, your challenge lies in coordinating these diverse elements into a cohesive force that becomes greater than the sum of its parts. (Unit Variety and Dragons). Mobility is the faction’s greatest strength. Cavalry and dragons excel at rapid redeployment and flanking, supported by a tactics deck that enhances maneuverability. Claiming the Maneuver Zone on the tactics board unlocks additional effects on many tactics cards, making it the primary focus for House Targaryen. (High Mobility) However, Targaryen units lack durability. They are not built for prolonged engagements and must avoid being bogged down in direct confrontations. Success depends on choosing the right time and place to strike, as Targaryen commanders must temper their aggression with careful planning. (Glass Cannons). Targaryen armies excel at dictating the tempo of battle. Their ability to swiftly relocate and concentrate force enables them to launch decisive first strikes, achieve breakthroughs, and overrun remaining enemy forces. Be mindful that timing and positioning are key to make this play style successful. (Rush Play Style).
