Faction: Baratheon

Ours is the Fury!

Lore

House Baratheon of Storm’s End is one of the Great Houses of Westeros, and the principal house in the Stormlands, which they rule as Lords Paramount. Their seat, Storm’s End, is an ancient castle built by the Storm Kings of the now-extinct House Durrandon. The Baratheon sigil is a crowned black stag on a field of gold, and their words are “Ours is the Fury.”

Following Robert’s Rebellion, House Baratheon split into three branches: Robert Baratheon was crowned king and took residence in King’s Landing, creating House Baratheon of King’s Landing. He gave the seat of Dragonstone to his younger brother, Stannis, establishing House Baratheon of Dragonstone. Robert’s youngest brother, Renly, became the Lord of Storm’s End, continuing House Baratheon of Storm’s End.

Faction Identity

House Baratheon is one of the great Houses of Westeros and the youngest among them. Baratheon men are typically tall and powerfully built, with black hair and blue eyes. More notably, they are infamous for their stormy temper. The Baratheons ruled the Seven Kingdoms after Robert’s Rebellion. Their success on the battlefield stems from their disciplined, often heavily armored forces. When Robert took the crown, House Baratheon split into three branches, each representing one of the Baratheon brothers. After Robert’s death two brothers remain and Baratheon players must choose their allegiance:

  • Stannis Baratheon emphasizes tactical cunning to disrupt opponents and dominate the battlefield. With the aid of R’hllor, Stannis Baratheon’s forces spread fear among their enemies.
  • Renly Baratheon draws strength from Highgarden’s wealth and support, focusing on healing, support, and synergistic plays.

Play Style

Baratheon units are known for their mid-to-heavy armor, making them among the toughest in the game. Their strategy revolves around enduring enemy attacks and retaliating with powerful strikes, excelling in a war of attrition. (Reactive Play Style). Baratheons benefit from many strong cards, though timing is crucial, as multiple cards share similar triggers. Claiming their preferred zones—Crown and Tactics—unlocks additional effects for their cards and units. Generic Baratheon NCUs are well-suited for controlling the tactics board, while loyalty-specific NCUs offer some of the game’s most impactful abilities. (Game-Changing Cards and NCUs). This resilience comes at a cost: Baratheon units have low mobility. Players must avoid being outmaneuvered and focus on forcing opponents to engage on their terms. (Low Mobility). Baratheons also lack access to inexpensive units, making it challenging to field high-activation lists. Furthermore, assembling forces requires careful consideration of loyalty-specific restrictions. (Limited List Building).
