Forgotten Fellowship
Lore
The Brotherhood Without Banners, also referred to as the Knights of the Hollow Hill and the Forgotten Fellowship, is a renegade group that originally opposed Lannister rule in the name of King Robert I Baratheon. Under the leadership of Beric Dondarrion, the Lightning Lord, the group was established in the Riverlands by soldiers and nobles dispatched by the then-Hand of the King, Eddard Stark, to apprehend Gregor Clegane.
Though initially ambushed and nearly defeated while crossing a ford, the group persisted as a guerrilla force. Their ranks swelled with defeated soldiers from various battles, deserters, and refugees from the War of the Five Kings. Their primary mission became protecting the smallfolk from the ravages inflicted by all sides of the conflict. Each member of the Brotherhood is knighted by Beric.

Faction Identity
Also known as the Knights of the Hollow Hill or the Forgotten Fellowship, the Brotherhood Without Banners is an outlaw guerrilla group dedicated to protecting the smallfolk from the ravages of war. Their origins trace back to Eddard Stark’s mission to the Riverlands, where forces led by Beric Dondarrion and Thoros of Myr were tasked with eliminating Gregor Clegane. This narrative is represented in their special rule: the Brotherhood can recruit one Baratheon or Stark unit, adding a unique layer of adaptability and thematic synergy to their playstyle.
Play Style
The Brotherhood is the second mini-faction in A Song of Ice and Fire: The Miniatures Game. While their limited unit roster constrains list-building options, the ability to include one Baratheon or Stark unit offsets this limitation. This flexibility opens up opportunities for creative combinations and synergies. (Limited List Building) Brotherhood units are highly thematic and emphasize guerrilla warfare tactics, favoring ambushes and teamwork:
- Peasants become stronger when fighting alongside other friendly units in melee and disrupt
enemies they engage. - Men-at-Arms excel at using mobility to enhance their offensive capabilities.
- Brotherhood Archers maneuver skillfully across the battlefield, leveraging terrain for tactical advantage. (Guerilla Play Style)
The Brotherhood’s tactics deck is flexible and versatile, offering a range of triggers and utility effects. Movement and healing cards stand out as key strengths, enabling players to sustain their forces and control the flow of the game. However, like the Martell tactics deck, it lacks raw offensive punch, a gap partially compensated for by unit abilities such as Sundering on two of their combat units. (Flexible Tactics Deck) One of the faction’s unique mechanics is its reliance on denying the enemy control of the Crown Zone. Many cards, units, and attachments lose significant strength if the opponent claims this zone, making Crown control a strategic necessity. (Need to Protect the Crown).
