Faction: Night’s Watch

The Black Brothers

Lore

The Night’s Watch is a revered military order tasked with defending the Wall, a formidable fortification along the northern border of the Seven Kingdoms. Their duty is to protect the realms of men from the dangers that lurk beyond the Wall. The origins of the Night’s Watch can be traced back to the Age of Heroes, a time when the Others were driven away. Known as the black brothers, the men of the Night’s Watch don only black attire. Those who join the ranks are said to “take the black.”

Faction Identity

All of Westeros knows that winter is coming. But when it truly arrives, who will defend mankind? None other than the hardy, experienced, and weather-beaten men of the Night’s Watch, tasked with being the “shield that guards the realms of men” as they man the giant Wall of Ice, that separates the civilized realms of Westeros from the wilderness to the north. Ever vigilant, the resilient Brothers of the Night’s Watch protect Westeros from Wildlings and their beasts daily. The Night’s Watch recruits from society’s outcasts—criminals and bastards—sent to the Wall by noble Houses. After speaking their famous vows, many perish quickly, but those who endure are forged into steadfast warriors. The Builders equip the Watch with powerful war machines, while the Rangers, masters of mobility and hit-and-run tactics, operate beyond the Wall.

Play Style

In the A Song of Ice and Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game, the Night’s Watch revolves around a unique vow mechanic. This system allows players to grant a variety of buffs to their units, enhancing offense, defense, morale, mobility, and more. Over time, you can stack vows, creating versatile, “Swiss army knife” units. (Unique Vow Mechanic). The Night’s Watch boasts sturdy melee infantry like Veterans, highly mobile cavalry in the form of Ranger units, and powerful war machines capable of raining destruction on enemies at the Wall’s  base. (Unit Variety and War Machines). Combining the vow mechanic with their diverse units creates an adaptable army capable of responding to many situations and scenarios. Straightforward yet flexible, the Night’s Watch is especially beginner-friendly. (Adaptable Play Style) However, the Night’s Watch lacks major surprises or game-changing abilities. Their tactics are often
predictable, leaving them vulnerable to opponents who excel in control or disruption. (No Element of Surprise).
